Columbia Pops Evening Concert

  • December 11, 9:30 pm, Roone Arledge Auditorium
  • Columbia Pops presents their eighth annual winter orchestral concert featuring an array of work from jazzy tunes, Broadway hits, and popular classical works to video game soundtracks.

Acting Thesis: Fucking A

  • December 14-15 at 8 pm, December 16 at 2 pm and 8 pm, and December 17 at 2 pm, Lenfest Center for the Arts Flexible Performance Space
  • Columbia’s School of the Arts MFA Acting Cohort for 2024 will perform Suzan-Lori Parks’ Fucking A, a take on The Scarlet Letter, directed by Benton Greene. This performance will follow small-town abortionist Hester Smith on a journey to free her wayward son from prison. Her branded A rises as a symbol of revenge, sacrifice, and violence.

Film at The Africa Center: Lamb

  • December 14, 7 pm, The Africa Center
  • The Africa Center will be holding a screening of Lamb, and a Q&A with director Yared Zeleke, and filmmaker Jessica Beshir. The film follows young Ethiopian boy Ephraim as he is sent to live with distant relatives after his mother’s death and establishes his place among his cousins through his cooking until his uncle decides to sacrifice his sheep at the next religious feast.

Wallach Sketch Session: Partisans of the Nude

  • December 16, 3 to 5 pm, Lenfest Center Katarina Otto-Bernstein Screening Room
  • An informational drawing session focused on select works from the Wallach Art Gallery Partisans of the Nude exhibition
  • No experience required, materials provided. Sessions repeat every 30 minutes.

Sound Art at the Fridman Gallery: “FROM OUT THERE/TOWARD ME AND THROUGH ME”

  • December 16 at 11 am to December 17 at 6 pm, the Fridman Gallery
  • The Columbia University School of the Arts introduces the 2024 and 2025 Sound Art classes’ exhibition “FROM OUT THERE/TOWARD ME AND THROUGH ME” demonstrating the creativity of artistic mediums.
