Bwog recounts memorable Columbia sports moments that happened over winter break.

Justin O’Toole (CC ‘24) broke Columbia’s record for 1,000m at the Washington Preview Meet, beating the old record set in 2011. He finished fifth overall in the event, and his time was the second fastest time in the history of the Ivy League. Previously, he was named 2022 Ivy League Outdoor Champion (4x800m) and 2022 First Team Outdoor All-Ivy League (4x800m).

Columbia football linebacker Anthony Roussos (CC ‘24) was chosen for the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) Annual Academic All-Star team, an honor that only 52 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) athletes were awarded this year. This All-Star team highlights key players who have outstanding academics as well.

Abbey Hsu (CC ‘24), Columbia women’s basketball senior guard, was named Ivy League Player of the Week for the tenth time in her career, matching the title for most in program history. Additionally, Cecilia Collins (CC ‘25) was named to the Ivy League Honor Roll over break, in addition to scoring a career-high 28 points in their match against the Princeton Tigers.

On December 29, men’s golf player Nathan Han (CC ‘24) played at the 2023 Patriot All-America. 222 nationally recognized players were invited to the 54-hole event in Arizona.

Sydney Sullenberger (CC ‘26) and Michelle Ahn (CC ‘27) were selected for the 2024 United States Archery Team (USAT) for compound and recurve, respectively. Both archers are familiar with USA archery; Sullenberger was selected for the USAT in the previous three years, and Ahn has been named in the U21 Division for the past two years. The Lions start their collegiate season on January 27 at the Easton Youth & Collegiate Trophy Tournament.
