Happening in the US: Walgreen, a Deerfield Illinois based company, plans to close 1,200 stores in the next three years. On Tuesday, October 15, the company announced it would close 14% of its US locations and reassign the majority of the workers impacted. This decision comes after Walgreen cut prices in May on 1,300 products in its stores in order to compete with other retailers that were catering to “inflation-weary customers.” Walgreens, like other pharmacy companies, is facing the impact of millions of Americans losing health insurance after the end of the pandemic policy that had mandated coverage throughout the health emergency.
