Student Spotlight:

Naloxone Training 

  • Thursday, December 5, 12 to 1 pm, Zoom.
  • Attend Columbia Health’s training session on naloxone. After learning about signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer naloxone, participants will be able to pick up a naloxone kit. This event is in partnership with the Mailman School of Public Health and the School of General Studies.

Tree Lighting

  • Thursday, December 5, 5 to 7:30 pm, Low Plaza and College Walk.
  • Try to catch the tree lighting! Alternatively, arrive at College Walk on time only to find that the tree lighting happened much, much earlier than scheduled. Giveaways start at 5 pm, and the ceremony and performances are scheduled from 6 to 7:30 pm.

The Secrets of Longevity 

  • Tuesday, December 3, 12:45 to 1:45 pm, Columbia Business School, David Geffen Hall, Room 590.
  • Hear from Masahiko Uotani (CBS ’83) about his work at Shiseido, a Japan-based beauty company. Uotani will discuss Shiseido’s strategy for maintaining its Japanese heritage and core values with 70 percent of sales overseas as well as Shiseido’s commitment to fostering women’s leadership and career development.

Psychoanalysis as Political Theory: Exigent Sadism and Libidinal Divestment

  • Wednesday, December 4, 5 to 7 pm, Deutsches Haus.
  • Co-sponsored by the Institute for the Study of Sexuality and Gender and the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society, this event features a talk by Avgi Saketopoulou on exigent sadism, a term coined in Saketopoulou’s book Sexuality Beyond Consent, and its ties to student protests.

Fitch Colloquium: Repairing Architecture Schools

  • Saturday, December 7, 10 am to 6 pm, Avery Hall, Wood Auditorium.
  • Attend the Fitch Colloquium, a collaborative effort between the GSAPP Historic Preservation Program and Places Journal. The event hopes to spark conversations on how to restructure architecture curricula in light of the increasing realization of how architecture can respond to the intersecting crises of climate change and housing.
