Nothing’s better than the original.

If there’s one thing that’s important to know about me and my suitemates, it’s that we RIDE for Chef Mike’s. So much so that when two of us were orientation leaders during NSOP, we made sure to give our group the crash course. If you ask us, knowing how to order at Chef Mike’s without holding up the line and being yelled at is one of the most important skills for a new Columbian to learn.

So when we received a text from Columbia Dining (and an email declaring us Chef Mike’s biggest fans) announcing the arrival of wraps at our favorite dining hall, we knew it was our duty to share our experience with the Barnumbia community.

Wraps are only available via mobile order, so download the app on your way over. Our wraps also took about 30 minutes to be ready, so factor in at least a little bit of wait time in the Uris lobby.

While the ease of in-app ordering is nice, we were divided on the wrap ordering system. While some of us are indecisive and like to try new toppings each visit, some of us are loyal mobile orderers and haven’t waited in line since Katrina Armstrong was president. Personal preferences aside, the app does help alleviate the 5:25 pm congestion, which is always a win.

First things first, the size. To say we were disappointed that the wrap didn’t burst at the seams of its wrapping is an understatement. Filling up just half of the bag, the wrap is definitely more of a lunch-sized portion, but it also does the trick for a quick dinner.

After a disappointing first impression, we carried the goods back to our suite to see if the taste was comparable to our usual orders. After splitting open the wraps, we were met with a delightful mixture of turkey, provolone, and peppers, topped with the classic olive oil and red wine vinegar combo.

Even though the wheat tortillas were not a crowd favorite (especially amongst the West Coasters), the ratios were perfect. It was also much easier (and cleaner) to eat than the classic sub, with its thick and chewy (and delicious) bread that somehow makes a mess every time. Our only note is that it was a bit heavy on the turkey, but we know this is a new addition, so we won’t hold it against them.

Overall, we were big fans, from the mobile ordering to the presentation and flavor, but it’s unclear if Chef Mike’s wraps will ever replace our beloved custom orders or our favorite hot honey chicken sandwich. That being said, if they ever release a signature wrap (I’m looking at you, chicken Caesar), then we might take that back.

If you’re craving something lighter than your usual between classes or a 9 pm club meeting, this is a great option!
