Happening in the World: As of this morning, 30 defense secretaries from various countries around the globe have met at the NATO headquarters to discuss plans to deploy their troops to Ukraine. Calling themselves the “coalition of the willing,” their goal is to send troops to help police future peace negotiations in Ukraine. The United States did not take part in this coalition, but as Finnish Defense Minister Anit Häkkänen stated, “The United States is a crucial player still in guaranteeing lasting security.” The coalition will be counting on American airpower or other military assistance to achieve success. Happening in the US: In the United States, egg prices are still on the rise, despite both Trump’s predictions and the overall slowing rate of the bird flu. Last month, the price hit a record-high of $6.23 per dozen. To provide a comparison, a dozen cost $2.04 in August 2023. This, coupled with the high demand for eggs typically seen around Easter, means that businesses who rely on eggs should not be expecting immediate relief. (AP)
Happening in NYC: In the southern district of New York, a federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from being able to deport migrants without notice or a court hearing. Issued on Wednesday night, the ruling follows President Trump’s use of the 1798 “Alien Enemies Act” to target Venezuelan immigrants who he claimed were a part of the Tren de Aragua gang. The ruling, though, only applies to individuals within the state’s southern district, which includes Manhattan and the Bronx along with Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, and Sullivan counties.
