Line dancing has taken New York by storm!

Happening Off-Campus: While tourists reclined in a nearby beach club in Cozumel, Mexico, a scientist observed while a young female raccoon had her own warm day fun. As the scientist watched, the raccoon pulled from the trash can a long piece of paper, sculpted it into a ball, and began playing with it between her paws. After which, surprisingly, she proceeded to teach her family to make more balls and play. “I’ve looked at hundreds of hours of raccoons, but I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Louis Lazure, a biologist and raccoon expert at Concordia University. The interaction is the first ever documented evidence of raccoons making and playing with toys; qualifying for the scientific definition of culture, in which animals receive information or behaviors through learning rather than heredity.(New York Times)

Happening Near Campus: Line dancing has taken New York City by storm. One of the more popular venues is the Hill Country Barbeque Market in the Flatiron district, where one even a Tuesday night you can find over 100 people headed downstairs to the Boot Bar. Line dancing playlists include many of the classics such as Lady Gaga, Tate McRae, Britney Spears, and Pitbull. Denim, cutoff shorts, and midriff-baring tops are, of course, staples. If you are looking for a fun night out, check out one of the many line dancing venues in Manhattan, such as the Boot Bar or the Big Apple Ranch. (New York Times)
