New York City Council has voted to phase out the city’s 160-year-old horse carriage industry.
Happening off Campus: After selling out online in minutes last week, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, hits select Apple stores for walk-in purchase today (Reuters).
Happening near Campus: On Thursday, the New York City Council voted 40-7 to phase out the city’s horse carriage industry by 2028. The vote comes after years of opposition to the industry from animal rights activists, as well as growing fears about human safety following the death of a teen this summer by a runaway horse carriage in Central Park. While the proposed rule mandates that carriage drivers be provided career counseling, civil service training, and referrals to other employment opportunities, some argue that the vote is still unfair (Gothamist).
Happening on-Campus: Today from 12 to 2 pm, you can rock climb, make autumn crafts, enjoy seasonal treats, and even get a free t-shirt on Morningside campus as part of annual tradition, ROARFest. See details here.
