Amenities:

  • Bathrooms: Shared floor bathroom cleaned on weekdays by facilities. Floor bathrooms alternate between gender-inclusive and women-only.
  • AC/Heating: Reid does not have air conditioning. Heating turns on in the colder months but the temperature can’t be adjusted.
  • Kitchen: Shared floor kitchenette in the floor lounge.
  • Lounge: 1 lounge per floor with tables, couches, TV, and kitchenette.
  • Laundry: 1 washer and 2 dryers per floor (the Sulzberger washer/dryers are also easily accessible)
  • Computers/Printing: 2 computer lounges in the basement with 4 printers total.
  • Gym: Barnard Gym is located in the basement of Barnard Hall, less than a minute walk away!
  • Intra-transportation: 2 elevators located at the corner of Reid and Brooks Hall, can also use the Sulzberger elevators.
  • Hardwood/Carpet: carpeted hallways, linoleum flooring in all rooms
  • Bonus: Reid has large built-in closets with sliding doors and additional storage space!

Bwog recommendation:
Reid tends to get a bad reputation due to its lack of air conditioning, which seems to be the main topic of conversation for the first few weeks of school.  That said, once those few warm weeks pass, Reid residents typically enjoy their experience.  With larger rooms (and closets), good views, and a slightly more social environment as connecting dorms on both ends are all first-years, Reid residents get the best out of Quad dorm amenities.

  • “I thought my room was really convenient because it was so close to a bathroom, the Brooks elevator, and a laundry machine. I also thought our room was quite spacious. The lack of air conditioning was only a concern in the first couple weeks but after that it was totally fine!”
  • “I loved living in Reid! I had a Broadway-facing room, so I had the best view and morning light which was always nice. I was surprised by how big our room felt, and the extra closet space was a nice perk. You don’t realize how convenient it is to live in the Quad until you’re not there anymore. It was so nice to have Furman Counseling, Primary Care, Being Barnard, Well-Woman, and WBAR all right downstairs. I know people complain about the lack of AC, but honestly it’ll make you tougher and a fan works just fine.”
  • “I loved living in Reid. I got a corner room so we had the biggest room on the floor which was great. There were also windows on two of our walls which helped to cool down the room during the summer (especially since we had no AC, which was hell). The no AC thing was definitely the worst part of living in Reid and I slept on the floor a couple times just because it was marginally cooler. Also, we were close to Brooks which was great because Brooks has the best showers.”
