Happening in the World: Large parts of Southern Bosnia have been flooded over or buried by landslides after a devastating night of rainfall on Friday. Infrastructure damage is still being surveyed, but so far, residents have described scenes as catastrophic. Rescue workers have had trouble reaching the worst affected areas. Happening in the US: A water buffalo was recently apprehended in Pleasant Hill, Iowa after being at large for several days. The owner of the water buffalo pleaded guilty to having an animal at large and handed over custody of two other water buffaloes alongside the original water buffalo (nicknamed PHill by town residents). Police shot PHill when they were tracking him down in an attempt to capture him. He is now being treated at a large animal hospital, and reports from the hospital say he’s recovering well. (AP)

Happening in NYC: Governor Kathy Hochul vetoed a bill this past Friday designed to improve pensions for a large number of active specialized police offices in New York. The bill would have shortened the minimum number of years that a member of a specialized police force would have to work in order to retire from 25 to 20. Despite state lawmakers passing the bill every single time in the past five years, Hochul has refused to pass it. (Gothamist)
