OMNY cards cannot be purchased this weekend!

Happening Off-Campus: Japan’s governing party elected Sanae Takaichi as its new leader. She was the former Minister of Economic Security. Being elected puts her in line to become Japan’s first female prime minister. As Japan ranks poorly internationally in terms of gender equality, Takaichi would make history. She defeated Agricultural Minister Shinjiro Koizumi in an intraparty runoff vote by the LDP. (CNN)

Happening Near Campus: The MTA says OMNY cards can’t be purchased or loaded this weekend, but riders can still tap to pay fares. They are attempting to phase out MetroCards at the end of the year. MTA officials said they will be upgrading the digital payment system from 10 pm Friday through 7 pm Sunday. During those hours, riders will not be able to purchase new OMNY cards or reload preexisting ones. On December 31st, MetroCard sales and distribution will cease. (Gothamist

Happening on Campus: Columbia is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the School of the Arts. Alumni across all programs and disciplines are invited to attend. It will feature art from many different artists, including alumni. Tickets can be purchased here for $40.
