Happy week-before-Fall Break!

Highlights: 

On Saturday, the Columbia volleyball team faced off against the Cornell Big Red on their home court, putting up one of its best performances of the season before falling 3-1. Senior setter Ruby van der Heide (CC ‘26) led the Lions’ offense with a whopping 34 assists, four digs, and a crucial ace in the first set. Outside hitter Elena Maynulet (CC ‘29) had 11 kills, followed by Eva Atkins (CC ‘26) with nine kills and middle blocker Maria Happ (CC ‘28) with eight for an impressive offensive display. Senior Juliana Williamson (CC ‘26) put down four kills and a block off the bench, giving the Lions some offensive momentum late in the game. After two hard fought sets that ended in Big Red victories, the Lions’ showed out for a third-set win, with a strong lead of 20-13, led by Happ, Maynulet, and Williamson. The Big Red tied the game back at 23-23, but the Lions, spearheaded by two back-to-back kills from Williamson assisted by van der Heide, brought the Lions to a 26-24 win. The Lions fought hard in the fourth set, but couldn’t overcome an early 10-4 run by Cornell. Next week, the Lions will take on Harvard and Dartmouth on the road.
