Happening off-Campus: The Northeast is grappling with the tail end of a significant winter storm. The storm caused over 4,000 flight delays and cancellations nationwide, and by Monday morning over 800,000 power outages had been reported. On top of the massive amounts of snow, a bitter cold has settled over as well, with many communities throughout the Midwest, South, and Northeast currently facing subzero weather. (AP)

Happening near Campus: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, in his rollout of universal childcare for two year olds, has promised to partner with family childcare providers. There are concerns, though, over how he will successfully integrate those caregivers (many of whom receive just $6 an hour) without pitting worker salary against the number of available spots for parents. Happening on-Campus: Today, the Center for Teaching and Learning will give a 90 minute lecture for instructors entitled “Beyond the Blue Book: Rethinking Assessment in the Age of AI.” It will be held online and dive into alternatives to blue book exams, which professors are increasingly turning to for assessment due to the accessibility of generative AI.
