Does this count as a blizzard? I think so? It is so fucking cold…

The weathermen weren’t lying. It’s officially fucking cold. This spring semester has been unusually chilly, which is now seen in the FOOT of snow which just landed in the city. The last time New York saw this much snow was in 2021.

Following Mayor Mamdani’s announcement of virtual learning for all classes on Monday, Columbia has gone remote. I remember a snow storm my freshman year where Columbia kept classes in person after NYU and NYC public schools shut down for virtual learning. I was honestly quite envious when walking to my 8:40 as the heavy snow came down…

But oh well. It’s going to be pretty fucking cold, for a while, so here are some fun things to do while we have snow on the ground and are stuck inside.

  • Make an egregiously hot cup of tea with your contraband kettle and tea that you lifted from the dining halls.
  • Go to Riverside Park and forage a box or piece of plastic to go sledding on.
  • Dream about the weather back home where it isn’t as fucking cold.
  • Yearn for JJ’s french toast. Consider actually braving the cold for it.
  • Find a bench and stare at all the cute dogs fitted up with winter jackets and boots.
  • Call Hartley Hospitality for the third time and beg them to come fix your heat.
  • Cuddle up with St. Augustine (I know you freshmen have Confessions to be reading…)
  • Challenge your sneaky link to a snowball fight on the lawns.
  • Think about how even though it is very fucking cold you are glad you haven’t dropped a band on a Canada Goose jacket. It’s never that fucking cold.
  • Bundle up and brace the outside to find a cafe to sit in. Find out everything is closed.
  • Learn from the resilience of the Butler smokers and how even though it is still so fucking cold, they will never give up their true passion.
  • Figure out wtf you’re doing over Spring break. Maybe stay in NYC?? But maybe it will still be too fucking cold.

Spring, I yearn for you… but for now I will try to appreciate the beauty of this Huge storm (from inside of course).
