Happening off Campus: A DubaiAir flight headed from Dubai to Tel Aviv plunged thousands of feet on Wednesday after one of the pilots stabbed the other, attempting to “crash the plane with its passengers on board,” according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The motives are not yet clear. Passengers intervened, and crew members stepped in to land the plane in Saudi Arabia. The passengers are now on a replacement flight to Tel Aviv. (NYTimes)

Happening near Campus: The New York City sanitation department intends to increase fines for landlords who fail to maintain their vacant lots from $100 to $250. Some New Yorkers still think this is too little to deter landlords from allowing their land to fall into disrepair. However, the sanitation department is prohibited from fining more than $250 by city law. (Gothamist)
