On Tuesday, a group of Jewish demonstrators held a protest on Low steps, condemning the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil and affirming that “immigrants are welcome here” amid ICE presence around Columbia’s campus.

Palestinian activist and Columbia graduate Mahmoud Khalil was detained by ICE in what appears to be one of the first enforcement of President Trump’s policy targeting international students involved in anti-war protests.

Columbia University Apartheid Divest held a protest in the Milstein Center lobby on Wednesday, March 5. Demonstrators expressed a number of demands, including the reinstating of three expelled students and a public meeting with Barnard President Laura Rosenbury and Dean Leslie Grinage.

On the morning of Columbia’s first day of Fall 2024 classes, more than 100 student protestors formed a picket in front of the 116th Street gates. Columbia University Apartheid Divest described the protest as opposing Columbia’s investments in the bombs falling on Gazan universities and contributions to “scholasticide” in Palestine.

At 4 am on Wednesday, April 17, Columbia students constructed a “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” in protest of the University’s response to pro-Palestinian students. Protests began at 10 am on Wednesday and continued through Thursday, overlapping with the time of Minouche Shafik’s testimony before Congress regarding antisemitism at Columbia.
