Update: 4:23 pm: Bell’s father wrote to us to say he is currently with him at the Neurological ICU. A friend who visited the hospital says Peyton is expected to move out of the ICU tomorrow and make a full recovery, barring complications. We wish him all the best for a speedy return to health.

Update: 3:51 pm: A friend of the family reports that Peyton has been transferred to Columbia Presbyterian.

Update, 2:10 pm: According to St. Luke’s, Bell was discharged today. That’s all the information we have for now, but we’ll continue to provide updates as we learn more.

Peyton Bell, CC ’13, is currently in critical condition at St. Luke’s after being struck by a car on 106th Street and Broadway in the early hours of Sunday morning. Bell got out of a cab at the notoriously dangerous intersection and was hit by a Mercedes Benz which drove off immediately. Bell, 20, is a member of the Columbia Rugby team and a leader of the 2011-2012 Philosophy Forum.

Almost exactly a month ago, 32-year old jazz singer Daniela D’Ercole was killed at the same intersection, which has long been considered one of the neighborhood’s most dangerous, after getting out of a taxi.

We’ll keep you posted as we find out more. In the meantime, our thoughts are with Peyton and his family.
