Lucha, the militant Latino activist group responsible for all those newsprint gravestones on College Walk yesterday, is now in newsprint: el participante, their fashionably uncapitalized, eight-page newsletter, began distribution on Sunday. “In addition to being a way for Lucha to communicate with the activist community, we hope it can turn into a place for discussion, criticism, and analysis of the left at Columbia,” explained editor Rudi Batzell in an e-mail.
The first edition, available as a pdf here, contains reports on a recent march on Washington and Jena 6 rally at Bronx Community College, as well as the hunger strike demands and selections from a speech given by Malcolm X a week before his death.
Now all we need is the return of the Citadel…

@disgusted the comments on this are reason ENOUGH for a group like LUCHA to be on this campus.
“1) These people are literate???
2) Who gave these people access to a printer?”
OR
“maybe they will read it themselves…. but thats about it lololoollololl”
OR
“I think I’ll pay my Mexican/Central American lawnmowers a few dollars less now, just to spite these idiots’ demands.”
FOR ONE, HOW RIDICULOUS ARE YOU? DO YOU SIT IN FRONT OF YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN, PATTING YOURSELF ON THE BACK AT HOW WITTY YOU THINK YOU ARE. YOU ARE NOT WITTY OR CLEVER OR FUNNY. WHO IS ‘THESE PEOPLE.’ ARE THEY LITERATE? WHY, YES, SOME ONE DID TEACH THE LATINOS TO WRITE… ARE YOU SURPRISED? AS FOR THE COMMENT ON THE LAWNMOWERS, YOU ARE JUST RIDICULOUS. CLEARLY THERE IS A NEED FOR A GROUP LIKE LUCHA WHEN THIS IS COMING FROM SUPPOSEDLY EDUCATED PEOPLE AT WHAT PEOPLE OFTEN SAY IS A LIBERAL UNIVERSITY.
@these people refers to Lucha, not Latinos. I wouldn’t generalize across a diverse of group of people like the Latino community any more than I would make a claim about an entire race of people. Lucha, on the other hand, is just a narrow-minded enough segment of the general population that I feel perfectly right in lumping them all together under the umbrella of unabashed idiocy.
P.S. Maybe you missed the memo from 1990, but TYPING IN CAPS DOESN’T MAKE ME READ LOUDER.
@Behold You have written in CAPS. The increased size of the letters has buttressed your argument and I am now one of your sheep.
@Like, seriously? Is this a joke?
@you wouldn't know what it’s like to not have a breeze in your head every time the wind blows, so who’s the real loser here? Oh that’s right, everyone in Columbia, for being associated with Lucha.
@skeptical You wouldnt know what it feels like to be oppressed.
@suckitlucha Lucha is a pathetic organization. Waah waah, we are oppressed, waaaah. We must struggle against the oppressive administration of an incredibly diverse and liberal university.
@haha They won’t mind… they’re too busy getting threesomes from your mama and your girl to notice.
@lolexploitation I think I’ll pay my Mexican/Central American lawnmowers a few dollars less now, just to spite these idiots’ demands.
@conservative Somebody really does need to bring back the Citadel.
@agree its pretty sad the republicans bring all those speakers but can’t put out a little publication semi regularly
and oh yeah. go columbia. beat the buckeyes!
@I disagree While I’d go see their speakers, I’d never read their publication.
@latina racist blood-sucking worthless bastards would be a more accurate description
@that shit is hot! you’re a bunch of haters!
@thats a terrible email address.
just saying.
@nevermind reading the pdf more than adequately answered my first question.
@two preguntas 1) These people are literate???
2) Who gave these people access to a printer?

@Wait... … Why bother with a newsletter when they can just spam my e-mail like they normally do?
@you can email them and get off if its that big of a deal.
@haha maybe they will read it themselves…. but thats about it lololoollololl
