Bring on the paaaaarty!

Luckily, we still have a Spring 2016 Bacchanal to look forward to next year. But what does that mean in practice? Our Monday man Joe Milholland brings you the answers. 

This Sunday night, the Columbia College Student Council approved the final changes to the ABC resolution that will change how Bacchanal is managed next year. The proposal, which makes the four undergrad student council VPs of finance oversee Bacchanal’s budget, has changed so that the VPs have to approve Financial Transaction Forms from the Bacchanal Committee. Additionally, around the date of F@CU, the VPs and the Bacchanal Committee will decide the allocation of funds for Bacchanal in certain areas, such as fundraising costs or facilities & securities. Finally, tickets for Bacchanal will be free, and students will be notified of the ticket release dates at least a month in advance.

CCSC also gave out its end-of-the year paper plate awards! Here they are (I won’t include the honorable mentions because nobody’s that much of a CCSC nerd):

• Academic Affairs Rep Matthew Forrest – Most likely to run unopposed all 3 years on council

• Class of 2016 VP Anne Scotti – Most likely to be having tequilas on Sunday night at 8pm next year
• President Peter Bailinson – Most likely to become a successful hostage negotiator

After the plate awards, Bailinson talked about how he was “incredibly proud” of the council and the work they did this year. He highlighted the number of events the class council put on this year, and he reimagined the four committee as the four houses of Hogwarts. Communications was the “friendly and impartial Hufflepuff” while Campus Life was the “academic and original Ravenclaw.” Bailinson said that Finance and Policy would each say that they were Gryffindor and the other was Slytherine.

Next year’s CCSC e-board – VP of Communications Grayon Warrick, VP of Finance Sameer Mishra, VP of Campus Life Kelly Echavarria, VP of Policy Vivek Ramakrishnan, and President Benjamin Makansi – then took their places at the front of the Satow Room.

Updates:

• According to Heinrich, changes to the academic calendar next year may come in the next few weeks or in Summer.
• Also from Heinrich: 90% of students supported extending JJ’s hours on weekends to 1am.
• Carryl announced that senior can get reimbursements for their caps and gowns for graduation.
• Singh met with some admins to discuss Health Services’ responses to survivors of sexual violence.
• Bailinson met with admins to discuss paycheck delays. Also, the council will review information Bailinson received about changes to Lerner from the Lerner Space Advisory Committee. The Committee wants to change the benches and turn the first floor computer lounge into a study area.
