Happening in the World: Temperatures have been fluctuating above and below freezing, in Kiruna, Sweden. The significant lack of snow in the region has caused the annual migration of reindeer in this region to be delayed. This is extremely concerning for many of the inhabitants there who are involved in reindeer husbandry (NBC News).
Happening in the US: A woman named Genevieve Purinton has been reunited with her daughter, Connie Moultrou, after 69 years of believing that she was dead. When Purinton gave birth in 1949 to Moultrou in Indiana, she was told that the baby was dead (CNN).
Happening in NYC: Elected officials are considering making recreational marijuana legal and using the revenue to pay for desperately needed subway upgrades. Former City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito estimates that the legalization of marijuana has the potential to make about $1.3 billion annually (NY Post).
Happening on Campus: Come see Orchesis, Columbia’s largest dance group on campus, perform their Fall 2018 show, “Versace on the FloOrchesis”! Performances will be held in Roone Arledge Auditorium tonight at 8 pm and 10:30 pm.
