New Staff Writer Aditi Misra is here to help you decide where to cram for midterms with the most reliable system available.
Aries: Milstein Center 1
Ambitious, independent, and goal-orientated, the first floor of the Milstein Center is perfect for an Aries. Just inhaling the smell of Peet’s Coffee will fuel your hours-long study session.
Taurus: Science and Engineering
Tauruses may be known for their stubbornness, but they also appreciate comfort. NoCo is a modern library with tons of natural light thanks to their floor-to-ceiling windows. The first floor features booth desks and second floor has cushioned chairs with individual study areas. Take a break and re-energize at Joe’s Coffee, conveniently located in the same building.
Gemini: Cafe East
Breaking away from the library scene, Cafe East in Lerner has great versatility in its food options. Just like their menu, Geminis enjoy variety. They’re also adaptable to their environment and love change. Hit the books with a smoothie and some sushi this midterm season.
Cancer: Hungarian Pastry Shop
This cozy spot on 111th and Amsterdam is the perfect place for the sensitive and imaginative Cancer. It should be noted that there’s no WiFi, but this also reduces the risk of switching tabs to check Twitter.
Leo: Butler 301
The most dramatic room I could think of for the most dramatic (and superior) sign. The high ceilings and chandeliers perfectly suit the determined, strong willed and spotlight-seeking sign.
Virgo: Milstein 2
The detail-oriented perfectionists that are Virgos will thrive on the second floor of the Milstein Center. With individual study spots and comfy green chairs, there’s no better place for a Virgo to spend hours working meticulously.
Libra: East Asian Library
Just like the sign, this library is peaceful and charming. It features a stained glass window, beautiful ceilings, and desks along the balcony above the main space. Enjoy the perfect balance of the aesthetic of Butler minus the stress culture.
Scorpios: Those desks along the ramps in Lerner
I’ve never understood Scorpios. I also don’t understand how people can get their work done in Lerner. Both are undeniably chaotic and mysterious, but Scorpios are also able to focus easily, making this the perfect match.
Sagittarius: Liz’s Place
Located in the Diana Center, Liz’s Place is vibrant, energetic and full of life– just like a Sagittarius. With major coffee shop vibes, this is the ideal place to work if you flourish on having company.
Capricorn: Butler 310
Capricorns are persistent, disciplined and responsible. This charming room has study nooks on the balcony that make it easy to focus, and finding an empty desk feels like the equivalent of winning the lottery.
Aquarius: Morningside Heights Public Library
Unconventional and original, an Aquarius loves to think outside the box. Leave the Columbia bubble, grab your library card and try something new yet familiar.
Pisces: Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library
Both Avery and Pisces are artsy, warm and comforting. Stick around the main room and enjoy the high ceilings and extensive bookshelves, or try going downstairs for a more secluded study session.
Happy studying!
