The housing website says that 47 Claremont, also just known as Claremont, has bike storage in the basement (see image).

Well, I was surprised to find after I bought a bike that Claremont does not in fact have bike storage in the basement! I looked through every nook and cranny of the seemingly newly renovated Claremont basement to find anything remotely resembling a bike storage, including a suspicious door that just said “storage,” but nothing. It does have a conference room, though, for some reason. I asked the security guard if he knew whether there was bike storage in the basement, and he said he didn’t know. I even called housing, and they said they don’t know what I’m talking about.

I think what happened is that there used to be bike storage in the basement, but when it was renovated, they got rid of it, and not enough people own a bike on campus to really know or care whether it’s there or not. Except I just bought a bike and I really don’t want it to get stolen, and the nearest dorm with bike storage is EC (which is not really close to Claremont). My bike is currently sitting in my room in the spot where I’m about to put a futon when it arrives next Friday. If anyone has suggestions on where I can put my bike, please let me know!!!

Update September 5th, 2019 8:59 pm: Housing has confirmed that 47 Claremont no longer has bike storage, but the nearest dorm with bike storage is, in fact, Woodbridge, not EC. I also found a bike rack just inside Barnard’s gates on 119th and Claremont, so I’ll be keeping my bike there. In the future, information about bike storage will be available exclusively on Housing’s bike racks page.
