Short Story of the Day: The Water that Falls On You From Nowhere by John Chu is a beautiful speculative fiction story about a world where water falls on you when you lie. Because of this, life is difficult for Matt, our protagonist, as he finds himself “[manuvering] the marriage question with his lover and how best to ‘come out’ to his traditional Chinese parents.” Winner of the 2014 Hugo Award for Best Short Story, this story deftly and tenderly explores the intersections of ethnic and queer identity as well as the infinite complexities of family.
