Happening in the world: Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic yesterday to secure his 13th win at the French Open. Though some had favored a Djokovic victory, Nadal, nicknamed “King of Clay” for the court material used in the French Open, easily beat his rival in straight sets for a record 100th win in the French Open. Happening in the US: Democratic Senate candidate Jaime Harrison of South Carolina has raised a record-breaking $57 million in the past quarter, a strong indicator of how much the Democratic party has invested in his race against sitting Senator Lindsey Graham. The previous record, set by Beto O’Rourke in his Texas Senate race against eventual winner Ted Cruz, was $38 million. Though Senator Graham won the seat in 2014 by 15 percentage points, polls now indicate that his lead in this race is marginal. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: The Museum of Chinese in America’s 85,000 salvaged items from a severe fire this past January have finished being restored and stabilized, the museum announced. The news came in conjunction with the unveiling of a new exhibit as part of a celebration of the museum’s 40th anniversary titled “Windows for Chinatown.” (Gothamist)

Happening in our community: Columbia’s Harriman Institute for Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies is hosting a discussion on Wednesday at 12 pm titled “Conveying Truth: Independent Media In Putin’s Russia.” The talk between award-winning two American and Russian journalists will consider the history of media under Putin’s Russia and what coverage of the COVID-19 crisis suggests about the state of independent media in modern-day Russia.
