Several teams, including Columbia Football, have posted their game schedules for the 2021 season, confirming that the Lions are ready to jump back into intercollegiate competition after being on hold due to the pandemic.
A joint statement released by the Ivy League Council of Presidents back in early May signaled a return to regular athletic competition starting this upcoming fall, barring any “unanticipated circumstances.” Since then, several Columbia teams have published game schedules for the 2021 season, including the Football team (aka we’re having a Homecoming this year!!).
Columbia Football’s 2021 season kicks off on September 18 against Marist College on home turf at Baker. The schedule indicates that the Homecoming 2021 game will take place against Penn on Saturday, October 16. Ticket information will be announced at a later date, and the Ivy League will be virtually hosting a preseason media day on August 16 featuring coaches and players from all eight Ivy League schools. Bwog reached out to the Athletics Department for further details about the upcoming season including student and guest attendance policies, potential student performers to replace CUMB, and concession availability at home games. We have yet to receive answers at this time, but we will update this post as information becomes available.

Statement from Ivy League Council of Presidents, posted on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 3:00 pm:
At each of our campuses, we are busily planning for the fall semester. As is prudent given all the uncertainty around the course of this pandemic, we are each planning for a range of possible scenarios. But given the current stead decline of Covid-19 infections in this country, and the broad availability and uptake of vaccinations, we are optimistic that our campuses will be back to something close to normal by this fall, including in-person learning with students in residence. And this includes our expectation for the resumption of regular competitive schedules for Ivy League athletics across all sports beginning in fall 2021.
We know that this has been a challenging year for Ivy League student-athletes — as it has for our entire campuses, our country and the world at-large — and we very much look forward to a return to spirited athletics competition and to the Ivy League rivalries that make our conference so special. Barring unanticipated circumstances, such as a dramatic increase in infection rates from a variant in the virus, we look forward to welcoming our teams back to intercollegiate competition this fall.
