Another awards show that I missed…..

Happening in the World: Last night the German center-left social democrats (SPD) claimed victory against Angela Merkel’s party. The leader of the SPD, Olaf Scholz, plans to form a new coalition with the Green and liberal blocs. However, Merkel will remain in power until the SPD forms the new coalition, which may not happen until December (BBC).

Happening in the US: Yesterday, for the first time since 2019, the Tony Awards ceremony was held! “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” an adaptation of a 2001 film, won Best Musical along with nine other awards. “The Inheritance,” which follows gay men in New York City, won Best Play (NYT).

Happening in NYC: Cordell Cleare won the Democratic nomination in the special election for the 30th Senate District seat, which was recently vacated by the new Lieutenant Governor, Brian Benjamin. If Cleare wins the general election, she will represent parts of Harlem, the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side (Gothamist).
