Happening in the World: Protests in Britain along numerous M25 motorway junctions resulted in numerous arrests this morning. The protestors, from the group Insulate Britain, are speaking out against climate change, threatening to continue blocking the motorway until the government makes a commitment towards combatting climate issues (BBC).
Happening in the US: President Joe Biden is in California today to witness the damaging effects of wildfire season on the environment and local residents lives. Biden’s tour across the country included New York and New Jersey to look at the damage from Hurricane Ida, and will continue on to Denver, Colorado where he will continue to push for economic changes centered around the climate crisis (CNN).
Happening in NYC: New York City school districts are opening today with no remote option for the first time since March 2020. All Department of Education employees are required to have at least one dose by September 27th. Teachers who have exemptions will be given work outside of classrooms, while teachers who make the choice not to get the vaccine will be offered unpaid leave or a severance package (CNN).
