Bwog is not sponsored by any of these spots…for now.

Whether you have a significant other or want to celebrate with your friends, here are some cute ways to spend love weekend this year!

  1. Hex & Co

Spend a few hours playing board games and getting to know each other’s competitive side! Hex & Co also serves drinks and snacks so this is the perfect date night if you want to stay inside without spending too much money (it’s just $5 for weeknights!).

  1. Go to a museum!

Check out the Whitney on Pay What You Wish Friday and stop by the terrace—the weather will be perfect, and you can grab drinks at the bar. Or, go uptown to the Cloisters and look at medieval art!

  1. Comedy clubs

If you’re looking for a spot on the Upper West Side,  you can check out Stand Up NY which has a special Valentine’s Day show. This is also a great alternative in case the Comedy Cellar is booked up!

  1. NYC Restaurant Week

Valentine’s Day is right when Restaurant Week ends, but you can certainly celebrate before then! There’s a massive list of restaurants offering prix fixe menus at a lower price than ordering a la carte; while still a bit of a splurge, this is a great opportunity to try out new spots with your s/o.

  1. A romantic promenade

Again, the weather is gonna be insane this weekend so make the most of it by going on a silly little walk! Head to the High Line and end in Chelsea Market and grab some food (I recommend Los Tacos), or walk through Central Park and people watch. For some water views, head down to the Seaport District.

  1. Take the NYC Ferry for an inexpensive boat ride at sunset

The quintessential romantic venture, for just $2.75! Head to the upper level of the ferry with your s/o and admire the skyline views (my personal favorite is the East River route). Choose a stop on the route to explore, or stay on the boat round trip! Drinks are also served at the lower deck, if that’s your vibe.

  1. Seafood Boil at Shaking Crab

For a restaurant experience that’s a little more hands-on head over to the Shaking Crab on Broadway and W 111th St for a good old-fashioned Seafood Boil.  You choose a sauce, add it to the bag of seafood/sides of your choice, and shake!  Stay close to campus, customize your dinner, and get a workout in all in one place!

  1. Go Thrifting

Treat yourself to something new for your closet without breaking the bank by visiting the collection of thrift shops in the UWS.  Our personal favorites are Unique Boutique (Columbus & 83rd), Goodwill (Broadway & 72nd), and Housing Work (Broadway & 96th). Pick out clothes for a night out in the future or put together an outfit for your significant other/loved ones!

  1. Charcuterie Board Night

Looking to stay home this year? Put on a good romantic comedy and get creative with your very own charcuterie board.  Whether savory or sweet, homemade or with baked goods from Levain and Hungarian the art of edible design is sure to bring you and your loved ones together.

  1. See a Show

If you’re dying to get tickets to Hamilton, Columbia can do you one better! On Valentine’s Day, there will be a performance of Clare Barron’s DANCE NATION, an acting thesis production from the Columbia School of the Arts.  The show follows a group of elite pre-teen dancers on the road to Nationals as they “discover not only their love of dance, but who they are as humans.”
