Things might be cooling down for Ukraine and the MTA, but the Oscars were definitely heated.

Happening in the World: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated that Ukraine is prepared to discuss taking a neutral status in order to make peace with Russia. Such an arrangement would require both a referendum and third-party guarantees, Zelenskyy stated. The comment comes before Russia and Ukraine are set to hold another round of negotiations this week, this time in Turkey. (BBC)

Happening in the US: In a shocking moment at last night’s 94th Academy Awards, Will Smith walked on stage and hit Chris Rock. The incident was prompted by Rock’s joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair, which she shaved as part of her struggle against alopecia, an autoimmune disorder. Later, Smith returned to the stage after winning the Oscar for Best Actor, at which point he apologized to the Academy and other nominees. (CNN)

Happening in NYC: Starting today, the MTA will restore 66 weekday trains running on three Metro-North lines. The trains were cut from the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines as a result of low ridership rates brought on by the pandemic. Metro-North ridership still remains at only 45% of its pre-pandemic levels, while subway and bus ridership rates have largely recovered. (Gothamist)
