Happening in the World: Russia has said that it has finally made ordue payments on their foreign debt, in efforts to steer clear from a possible default next week. The interest payments of about $650 million dollars were made, they said. On Friday, Russia’s central bank chief, Elvira Nabiullina, told journalists “There cannot be any talk of default” but acknowledged that there were “difficulties” with payments. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Recent polling has revealed that Black and Hispanic Americans have remained far more cautious in their approach to COVID-19 than white Americans. Despite majority favorability among US adults overall for measures like mask mandates, public health experts said divided opinions among racial groups reflect not only the unequal impact of the pandemic on people of color but also the apathy of some white Americans. Happening in NYC: A Steuben County Supreme Court judge on Friday declared that both the New York Congressional and State Senate primaries would be pushed to August 23rd. This decision comes after a Court of Appeals decision on Wednesday ruled the new district maps drawn by Democrats were designed with partisan intent. The order will now give a court-appointed “special master” until May 20th to redraft the maps. (Gothamist)
