Caroline breaks down all we know—and have yet to discover—about this season’s Senior Scramble.

Two accounts, both alike in dignity,

In fair Columbia where we lay our scene,

From student gov to rebel insurgency,

Where civil hands make crushes unseen.

What is Senior Scramble?

Senior Scramble is the Senior Class Tinder, a speed dating ritual before graduation, and a matching service to pair people who are too awkward to talk to each other. Seniors sign up, enter the unis of other seniors, and hope to get a match.

In most years, the infamous Facebook account and unofficial Columbia Seniors Coordinator ‘Senior Underground’ announces the Scramble.

But this year, that was not the case.

First is the worst… or not?

On March 18, 2022, a mysterious account named @cu_seniorscramble appeared on Instagram. A portion of the Class of 2022 giddily signed up on the blue social page until registration seemingly closed sometime over the past couple of days.

This blue Scramble also links to their own website—https://www.senior-scramble.com/—which launches tomorrow, Thursday, April 6. The current landing page dictates that people who have not signed up are in the clear, as “registration will renew once the website is up.”

Is second the best?

On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, a second red and pink-themed account appeared, aptly titled @cuseniorscramble, with a bio saying “Welcome to Columbia’s Official Senior Scramble xoxo.” Multiple CU seniors also reposted this Scramble’s pictures, inviting others to join the “OFFICIAL” version.

Similar to the first account, the red Scramble has a website—https://cu-senior-scramble.com/—where seniors can sign up and list each other. The list is live, so you can start entering, but you won’t receive matches until two weeks from now.

The red Scramble also has a ‘transparency’ option, in which you can tell someone on your list you put them down, akin to liking someone on Hinge.

OMGGG the Girls are Fightingggg

The official-ness of the red Scramble and the blue one is yet to be determined. Rumor has it that CCSC is indirectly involved with the red account, but we at Bwog are unsure who actually runs either one.

Less than an hour ago the red Scramble posted an update to their account, stating that two separate technology teams were working on the Scramble website for this year. Red Scramble has claimed that concerns were expressed by students about one team, so they—with Senior Underground—decided to go with the other team. Red Scramble still claims to be the one official Columbia Senior Scramble.

The fire-starter that is the word “Official” has confused seniors and others in the community. Which one should I sign up for? What if my crush signs up for the other one? Who cares? All these questions and more are swirling around the ’22 group chats.

Tonight’s Event

With 40 days till graduation, tonight is the famed 40s on 40 event. All seniors are invited to gather on Low Steps with a 40oz beverage of their choosing at 10 pm tonight, Wednesday, April 6.

Senior Underground posted this information last night, promoting the red Scramble and encouraging seniors to share their unis this evening.

I personally think the Scrambles should fight and then enact the popular ‘enemies to lovers’ plotline for the senior class. But that is not the question at hand. Which Scramble will you sign up for? Blue? Red? Or why not both?

See you tonight!

Update: Red Scramble Succeeds

On Thursday, April 6, @cu_seniorscramble posted a story that they have “merged with another group of scramblers”—presumably referring to the Red Scramble creators. The Blue Scramble account owners then said they will be coding the website, while the Red Scramble account owners are responsible for “social media and branding.” The Blue Scramble account has now been deactivated.

So Red Scramble has won, what now? Well, if you registered through Blue Scramble, you should be okay considering the merger. Good luck, scramblers!

Update on Wednesday, April 6 at 6:04 pm: This article has been updated to reflect the most recent post on the red Scramble’s Instagram.

Update on Sunday, April 10 at 11:30 pm: This article has been updated to reflect the merger of Red Scramble and Blue Scramble.
