Ronaldo, research, and rats off to New York Mayor Eric Adams!

Happening in the World: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has removed striker Cristiano Ronaldo from the squad that will face Chelsea in a match on Saturday. He did not train with the first team on Thursday, and is not expected to rejoin the group until Monday. This decision was taken after Ronaldo walked out of Old Trafford before the end of United’s 2-0 victory over Spurs on Wednesday. The striker left his seat on the bench to walk down the tunnel before the full-time whistle against Tottenham, despite ten Hag having two substitutions still available. This is the second time that Ronaldo has left a match early, with the United boss branding his behavior as “unacceptable.” (ESPN)

Happening in the US: “Midnights,” Taylor Swift’s 10th studio LP was released at 12 am today. The singer-songwriter announced the 13-track album two months ago, calling it “the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life.” It is Swift’s fifth album in just over two years, following the more indie styles of “Folklore” and “Evermore.” This album is a return to more mainstream pop, and is expected to be one of this year’s biggest sellers. Four exclusive versions of the album will also be released on vinyl, along with a CD with three exclusive tracks that can be found at Target. (NYTimes)

Happening in NYC: Beginning in April 2023, New York Mayor Eric Adams has announced that the city’s residents will be fined for placing their trash on the curb before 8 pm. This is his latest attempt to reduce the rampant rat population, through changing the current rule that allows New Yorkers to place their trash out after 4 pm. The city’s Sanitation Department has reported that more than 21,600 rat complaints have been made this year, which is a 71 percent increase from October 2020. This rise has been blamed on the pandemic, with work-from-home measures and outdoor dining being credited for the citywide problem. (NPR)
