1 CommentsAfter extending the deadline for applicants from Mainland China, Barnard Admissions has set January 16 as the new deadline for all applicants due to a “myriad of circumstances around the world.”
Barnard College will continue to accept Regular Decision applications for the Class of 2027 until January 16 at 11:59 pm in applicants’ local time zones, according to posts on official Barnard Admissions social media accounts made on January 5. The original deadline for applications was January 4.
According to a Barnard spokesperson, an extension was originally issued only to applicants from Mainland China, but “due to severe weather-related incidents and other extenuating circumstances, Barnard’s admissions team made the decision to extend the deadline for all applicants.” Full texts of emails sent to applicants can be found below.
In the initial email sent to applicants in Mainland China, Ruby Bhattacharya, Director of Recruitment and Selection, wrote: “Given the current circumstances in Mainland China, Barnard College is extending its Regular Decision deadline for students applying from Mainland China to Monday, January 16, 2023 at 11:59 PM China Standard Time.”
“Your well-being is important to us, and we hope that having this information will help to put you and your family at ease during this challenging time,” Bhattacharya added.
A similar email was later sent to all applicants by Christina S. Lopez, Dean of Enrollment Management. “Given the myriad of circumstances around the world that have caused delays in application submission, Barnard College is extending its Regular Decision deadline to Monday, January 16, 2023 at 11:59 PM in your time zone,” Lopez wrote.
Barnard will release admissions decisions for the Regular Decision cycle in late March.

@Anonymous Extending deadlines is just a game colleges play to increase applications and lower admit rates. Do you really want a student who had six months to apply and decided to apply in January?
