  • On Friday, February 17, at 6 pm EST in Lerner 555, the African Students Association will be hosting its third annual Valentine’s Day Dating Game. If you’re looking for love, you can participate as a contestant or show up with your friends to observe the festivities from the audience!
  • On Saturday, February 18, from 10 am to 5 pm, Columbia Women’s Business Society will host their Annual Women’s Business Leadership Conference! The 2023 CWBS Annual Women’s Business Leadership Conference on February 18, 2023 will celebrate the theme “Evolution of Us” through a day of keynote presentations, fireside chats, panels, and breakout sessions featuring high-powered women leaders across various business sectors. This year, the panels will span the industries of Art & Beauty, e-Commerce & e-Services, and Health & Sustainability. The fireside chats and keynotes will feature women founders and leaders in the AI, start-up, and Arts spaces. In addition to speaker events, the Conference will also include a networking hour staffed with recruiters from top employers. Please join us in this celebration of female perseverance through Covid-19 and the progression of women in the workplace throughout history! Dress is business casual and tickets are $15.   • This week, Monday, February 12, through Friday, February 18, is Audre Lorde Week with the Multicultural Affairs office! Students can celebrate Audre Lorde’s life and birthday this Friday with a variety of events, including engaging with Lorde’s poetry and visiting local social justice education-focused bookstores.   • On Monday, February 13, from 12 to 1 pm EST, students can join Columbia faculty and staff ahead of Integrity Week for an informal conversation about AI tools including ChatGPT and their implications in the classroom. Amanda Irvin, Senior Director of Faculty Programs and Services at the Center for Teaching and Learning, will facilitate the conversation, which will take place over Zoom. Please register online.
  • On Tuesday, February 14, at 11:30 am to 1 pm, students can attend a podcasting workshop to learn practical ways you can script to ensure a smooth recording and editing process. This workshop is part of the Podcasting Workshops series (online and in-person), led by Film and Media Studies graduate student Emily Ko, and will take place over Zoom. Please register online.
  • Also on Tuesday, February 14, at 12:10 pm, Pablo Arrocha, the Legal Adviser for Mexico’s Mission to the United Nations, will present on progress and prospects for a new international treaty on Crimes Against Humanity, with additional insights provided by Professor Lori Damrosch and moderation by Professor Richard Dicker. Lunch will be provided. This event is organized by Columbia’s Human Rights Institute and will take place in Jerome Greene Hall Room 107.
  • On Thursday, February 16, at 1 pm, please join the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs for a student-only lunch and roundtable discussion with Thilmeeza Hussain, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations. A just transition centers on moving to a greener economy in a way that is fair and inclusive of all humans. In order to build a career based on the principles of a just transition, we must be intentional and purposeful. Her Excellency Thilmeeza Hussain will discuss how she has managed to navigate her career utilizing the principles of the just transition. We will also discuss ways to apply the lessons Ms. Hussain has learned to students’ career paths. This roundtable is open only to currently-enrolled Columbia University students, and lunch will be provided. Please register online to attend.
  • Also on Thursday, February 16, from 6 to 8:30 pm, is the book launch of Dr. Beth Fisher-Yoshida’s New Story, New Power: A Woman’s Guide to Negotiation. In New Story, New Power, Dr. Fisher-Yoshida shares no-nonsense strategies for disrupting negative self-talk, based on firsthand accounts of women at all stages of their careers, and personal insights. This practical book is inspired by Dr. Fisher-Yoshida’s decades of research and experience coaching hundreds of professional women in the workplace.
