It’s here, it’s here, it’s finally here!
We’re so back.
It is that time of year, Barnumbia community. Back to the hustle and bustle, the Hamilton stairs, and pretending to listen to our professors go over the syllabus on the first day of class.
Well, perk your little ears up and pay attention! We at Bwog love to amass the goofy and silly (or maybe scary and problematic) things our eccentric professors tell students on the first day for our recurring series “Opening Remarks.”
Now is your chance to be featured! Email tips@bwog.com or leave a comment below this post with the full quote, professor’s name, and class.
Have a happy FDOC!

@Anonymous Pro tip for first-years: Don’t use the fake name “Barnumbia” except on Bwog. You’ll be laughed at.
@Anonymous Wahhh wahhh wahh poor baby so offended :(
@CC '22 pro tip for new bwoggers (and first years, hello): this comment gets made every year. it is tradition on the blog to have a lazy commenter or two say “barnumbia’s not a real word” or “how did you get into this school?”
take it with stride as you publish, and may this year’s comment sections be an improvement on previous years. have fun, and remember that john jay is the best dining hall. ignore all dissenters.
@Anonymous Little-known factoid: in 1889, Frederick A.P. Barnard wrote, as part of a fund-raising letter in support of the fledgling college across Broadway: “Once Barnard College is established, we’ll be able to refer to the entire Columbia-Barnard complex as ‘Barnumbia’. So please donate. Please, please, please. And screw you, Columbia.”
