  • Columbia University Performing Arts League will hold its fall Kickoff, introducing its music, dance, and theatre members to the wider community.

14th Annual Kenneth J. Arrow Lecture Series: Christopher A. Sims

  • Thursday, September 7, 5 pm to 7 pm, Columbia Business School.
  • The 2011 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences Christopher A. Sims will discuss the topic “Origins of American Inflation,” explaining the rise of American inflation in the 1970s to its recent resurgence. President Shafik will give a welcome speech. 
  • Registration is required and seating is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

Music Against Empire: Contemporary and Historical Excavations of Trauma and Resistance

  • Thursday, September 7, 6 pm to 8 pm, Buel Hall.
  • Panelists will explore historical and contemporary musical sources that foreground resistance to erasure, systemic oppression, and cultural assimilation. The event will also include a performance by violinist and composer Layale Chaker.
  • Registration is required.

TEDxColumbiaUniversity: Excellence Through Equity

  • Saturday, September 9, 9 am to 5 pm, Columbia Business School.
  • The Columbia Business School is hosting the inaugural TEDxColumbiaUniversity on the theme Excellence Through Equity. Through a series of talks and performances, speakers will share their stories and ideas on how people can achieve their full potential by embracing equity.
