Every summer, Bwog staff contribute to our Houses and Homes series, where we take you to the many places we went. This summer starts off with an entry from Social Media Editor, Tal Bloom from a tent in Three Rivers, Michigan. If you want to share your House and/or Home, email us at tips@bwog.com!

Where: A tent right next to a lake in rural Michigan. Fits 2 bunk beds, and one single bed. Mosquito netting: extremely necessary, unless you want to wake up covered in hundreds of bug bites.

Sight: Murals dotting camp buildings. The glimmering lake in view. Fireflies twirling around at dusk—I had never seen fireflies before.

Smell: Faint mothballs, used to store the tents so they don’t get moldy. Also, mold. We love living in tents! Made it through, though.

Taste: Incredible food cooked by the counselors every day, served on plates washed by the campers. We love labor at Camp Tavor :). #socialism #servingthecollective

Touch: Slightly damp bedding and clothing—summer thunderstorms do indeed make their way into our lovely tents. The concrete floor dusted with dirt, glitter, and poetry underneath my socks.

Hearing: The immaculate music taste of my campers, downloaded onto their radios. One of my campers strumming a guitar two tents over (he’ll be famous one day). Younger campers running around, singing songs from the camp musical.
