Happening in the World: Hurricane Norma and Hurricane Tammy landed yesterday in Mexico and Barbuda, respectively. Norma moved at about 7 mph with maximum winds of 60 mph. Tammy moved at 10 mph and was expected to bring up to a foot of rainfall. (AP News)
Happening in the US: Samantha Woll, president of a Detroit synagogue, was murdered outside her home yesterday. Woll was involved in both the Jewish and Democratic communities of her city. The Detroit police have not yet found a motive for the stabbing. (Reuters)
Happening in NYC: The Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade took place yesterday, with Pookah the Pomeranian taking home the award of “Best in Show.” This year’s event was the first that included a procession through the streets. (Gothamist)
