Happening in the World: Robert DeNiro took the stand yesterday on the first day of a civil trial against a former employee. They sued the actor over claims of gender discrimination. Graham Chase Robinson has said that the star underpaid her, made sexist comments and assigned her “stereotypically female tasks” as she worked as an executive. De Niro has said her allegations were all “nonsense”. (BBC)
Happening in the US: Fruit Purée Pouches may contain lead, the FDA warns. Federal officials have recommended that children who have had the WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit purée pouches get a blood test. An investigation has found that the purée had “extremely high concentrations of lead”. The FDA reviewed findings that said these lead levels could result in acute toxicity. (NYT)
Happening in NYC: New York City Marathon is happening this weekend! Approximately 50,000 people will race across the five boroughs. This year’s event takes place Sunday, Nov 5, when daylight saving time also ends. The race officially starts at 8 am, but there are different start times for different divisions. (Gothamist)
