Happening in the US: Barbara Streisand’s new memoir, “My Name Is Barbara” is upon us. It encompasses girlhood, Brooklyn in the 40s, her time in “Funny Girl” on Broadway in 1964, and her skyrocket to fame! (NYT)
Happening in NYC: Syphilis is rising among babies in the US. Figures have shown that New York and New Jersey are not immune to this trend, despite having lower rates of infant syphilis than the US average. The CDC is urging public health professionals and doctors to take steps to identify and treat syphilis in pregnant people before it is passed onto their babies. Recent spikes in congenital syphilis mirror a national escalation of transmission in sexually transmitted infections among adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. A shortage of drug treatments could also answer for this rise in cases. (Gothamist)
