Here we go again.

Dearest readers, I regret to inform you that the dreaded Housing Lottery has begun. Friendships are splintering, suites are filling up, and all the singles are gone. This year, the Barnard 4-person lottery was brutal as ever, with a whopping 71 groups trying to get 40 suites. Lottery numbers 1 to 32 went to rising seniors, 33 to 35 junior plus, 36 to 60 rising juniors, a lone sophomore plus group, and lottery slots 62 to 71 going to rising sophomores.

What’s gone:

Everything, as usual. However, this year, the final pick came from the very last rising sophomore group, revealing a shocking number of rising juniors who did not pick a suite. All suites with singles were taken by lottery number 28, with many rising seniors picking into two doubles in 600 or 110. Crazy. While the lottery may have left the rising juniors feeling disappointed, the rising sophomores are probably thrilled with their gorgeous 110th suites. Gotta warn you though – you’re not gonna get any light.

Looking ahead:

The 5-person lottery is from 9 am to 5 pm Friday, March 22, with 57 eager groups vying for the coveted 5 single suites in 121 and 600, the three singles and a double suites in 616 and CG, and the one single, two double configurations in 110, 121, and 600. And, dear reader, may the odds be ever in your favor.
