Climate change is sweeping through Central and Eastern Europe. Editor’s note: mentions of death.
Happening in the World: Torrential rain caused by Storm Boris continues to wreak havoc throughout Central and Eastern Europe, destroying houses and taking lives. A firefighter has died during a flood rescue in Austria, one person drowned in Poland, and five people have died in Romania. Many remain unaccounted for in the Czech Republic. Some areas have seen three months of rainfall in just three days, resulting in extreme flooding for many villages throughout the region. (BBC)
Happening in the US: Former President Donald Trump is unharmed after what appears to have been another assassination attempt taking place at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. This attempt is just over two months after an assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Secret Service personnel fired on the suspect, armed with a rifle and hiding in the bushes, and he has now been taken into custody. (NY Times)
Happening in NYC: New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ top City Hall lawyer resigned on Saturday without advance notice at a time when many in the administration face multiple federal investigations. Her resignation letter says little about why she left, but the exit leaves a significant hole in the administration. Lisa Zorberg was responsible for defending the mayor during a federal corruption investigation into his 2021 campaign. (Gothamist)
