Backed by a great rushing attack along with stellar defense, Columbia doubled Princeton’s points to secure a victory in the Ivy League opener.

“Who got the juice, We got the juice!!!”

The Columbia Lions (2-1, 1-0, Ivy) sure had “the juice” –as the team yells before every game– as Coach Jon Poppe led his team to victory Saturday afternoon against Princeton (1-2, 0-1, Ivy). With a big crowd in attendance, no fan left disappointed. Who wouldn’t take satisfaction in watching Princeton’s band go silent as Columbia’s defense gave them nothing to cheer about? Defensive Back Hayden Mcdonald (CC ‘25) led The Lion’s defense with two interceptions and seven tackles, holding Princeton to a measly 17 points.

Offensively, Quarterback Chase Goodwin (CC ‘27) commanded the offense in his return from injury, throwing for 200 yards and a touchdown. On the receiving end of those passes was Edan Stagg (CC ‘26) who reeled in six catches for 99 yards. Columbia’s ground game was very much alive as well. The Lions as a whole ran for 269 yards with Joey Giorgi (CC ‘27) leading the way with 157 yards.

After last week’s loss to Georgetown (3-2, 0-0, Patriot), the Lions have bounced back to start the Ivy League Season with a bang. They hope to take this momentum into next week’s non-conference game as Columbia takes on the Wagner Seahawks (3-2, 1-1, NEC).
