The Texas Public School Curriculum may soon undermine the separation of Church and State. Editor’s warning: mentions of death.
Happening in the World: 47 medical professionals are currently being tried in Turkey over the death of 10 or more newborn babies as it is believed that the children were only transferred between hospitals to increase profits. The accusations against the defendants include making false diagnoses to get the babies relocated to one of the 19 hospitals involved, where they were kept in neonatal intensive care units for unnecessary, lengthy treatments. The investigation behind this offense was launched in March 2023 following an anonymous tip-off to Police. Since then, ten hospitals have had their licenses annulled. (BBC)
Happening in the US: The Texas Education Board is set to vote on Monday to implement Bible focused lessons in public schools. The new curriculum would directly affect elementary school reading and language arts lessons and, potentially, alter the limits of religious instruction in public education. Though an optional curriculum, schools will be provided with a financial incentive if they adopt it. In the past few years, Texas has taken the most action to expand the role of religion in public life as it was the first state to allow religious chaplains to serve as counselors at public schools and will shortly begin another attempt at requiring public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments. According to authorities, the incident occurred at 8:17 am and left one man in critical condition and two others stable. All were transported to Bellevue Hospital. (Gothamist)
