In non-Bwoglines news, snow has fallen across New England for the first time this season!
Happening in the World: The International Criminal Court (I.C.C.) has issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on grounds of war crimes in the Gaza Strip. The court also issued a warrant for the arrest of Hamas’s military chief, Muhammad Deif, also accusing him of crimes against humanity. Israel has previously claimed that they killed Deif in an airstrike, but the court said it could not yet determine whether he was dead or not. The two are unlikely to find themselves in a courtroom anytime soon as the I.C.C. has no police force to make arrests. Additionally, Israel is not among its member nations. (NYT)
Happening in the US: Matt Gaetz, the congressman who President-elect Donald Trump had chosen as his pick for attorney general, has withdrawn from consideration for the position amid concerns regarding his alleged history of sexual misconduct. Gaetz has repeatedly denied these claims, but Republicans in the Senate were reluctant to confirm someone to run the same Justice Department that once investigated him for allegations of sex trafficking. Gaetz told confidants he did not want an extended confirmation process that would delay Trump from getting his attorney general in place at the start of his administration. Since Gaetz’s withdrawal, Trump has changed his pick to Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general. (NYT)
Happening in NYC: The “City of Yes” plan, an initiative seeking to address New York City’s housing crisis, won approval from a City Council committee, leading to an unexpected pledge of $5 billion in funding for affordable housing and infrastructure projects. The plan is ultimately designed to tackle the zoning rules making large-scale housing growth difficult. This comes at an imperative time, as New York City is facing its worst housing shortage in half a century. If successful, this initiative is estimated to allow the construction of 80,000 homes across the city. (NYT)
