I am once again embarking on a rewatch of New Girl. And what better way to examine my favorite show than to compare its characters to the buildings we live in?

As someone who has watched and rewatched New Girl at least five times, I feel extremely qualified to write this article. I know these characters inside and out, just like I know the buildings of The Quad inside and out from my last three months of living here!

Brooks: Nick Miller

  • No one can deny that Brooks has its issues: it’s the oldest building of The Quad and kind of falling apart. The rooms are tiny, the insulation is bad, and the water is occasionally brown. Despite its shortcomings, Brooks has a certain charm to it with its antique fireplaces and stairwells! Nick Miller is the same way: you can’t help but love him (or be in love with him), even if he keeps all of his money in a box in his closet, never washes his towel, and acts like a grumpy old man.

Hewitt: Jessica Day

  • Jess would LOVE Hewitt’s pink doors, and the cozy rooms with gorgeous views feel like a perfect representation of Jessica Day. Hewitt is also known for the hallway’s quirky patterned carpet, which honestly looks like something Jess would wear. She notoriously “rocks a lot of polka dots.” Plus, with all the space in a single, Jess would have plenty of room for all her crafting materials, ribbons, and purses.

Reid: Winston Bishop

  • Reid is criminally underrated, and so is Winston! Reid is often overlooked in favor of its flashier neighbor, Sulz, but Reid is cute in its own right, and the small hall size gives it a cozy feel. Winston is arguably the sweetest character on the show, and just like Reid, he deserves more love! (It’s not his fault the writers didn’t know what to do with him for the first three seasons).

Sulzberger: Schmidt

  • Schmidt is known for being sensitive and a bit of a control freak, and we all know how Sulz residents like to complain as soon as their air conditioning isn’t just right. Plus, Schmidt considers himself the “top dog” of the loft and is obsessed with having the biggest room, just like how everyone in Sulzberger thinks they have the best dorm (though they’re kind of right).
