Contrary to popular opinion, this dorm has no relation to the Vampire Weekend song of the same name.
Location: 544 W 110th Street (about 1/3 of the way from Broadway to Amsterdam)
- Nearby dorms: Carlton Arms, Barnard 110, many popular off-campus apartments on 110th and 109th
- Stores and restaurants: Westside Market, H-Mart, CVS, Hungarian Pastry Shop, Qahwah House, Oren’s, Playa Bowls, Koronet, 1020, Lion’s Head, The Heights, etc.
Cost: Upperclassmen rate: $12,222*
* This is the 2024 rate and may increase.
Amenities:
- Bathrooms: Two bathrooms per floor, cleaned by Facilities Monday through Friday. Each bathroom has a toilet, a shower, and two sinks. On my floor, they are separated into men’s and women’s, but some floors have gender-neutral bathrooms.
- AC: No AC, unfortunately.
- Kitchen and lounge: One shared lounge/kitchen space on each floor with ample cabinet and counter space, an oven/stove, a microwave, a sink, and a full-sized fridge. Ours also had a TV first semester that is now gone. There is also a lounge on the first floor that I only use when I’m waiting for friends to arrive.
- Printing: PawPrint station in lobby with one computer; every time I have used it, it has been free.
- Bike storage: Located in the basement.
- Laundry: Free laundry in the basement with a Clothing Donation bin. Four washers and four dryers, which is plenty since it’s a small building.
- Fitness room: Located on the second floor.
- Elevator: One, usually fine except for when you’re late and running to a class and then it will never arrive.
- Flooring: Hard wood surface.
Room variety:
- 80 singles of varying square footage. Most are between 90 and 110 sq ft, but some are much smaller and some much bigger. Also, consider layouts since some have a kind of entryway area and/or multiple windows.
- 6 doubles
- Two 6-person suites
Stats from the 2024 Housing Lottery:
- 2024 Selection: 87% juniors, 4% seniors, 9% sophomores
- 62% of students selected into Harmony Hall as a group
- 85% all-junior groups
- 15% all-senior groups
- All sophomores selected into doubles and the suites were both selected by juniors.
Bwog recommendation:
I love living in Harmony! It’s a great spot for rising juniors who want singles, and although it is on the farther side from campus, to me, that’s a plus. It is so nice to be close to restaurants and stores, and have the mental and physical separation from campus. Plus, you’re one subway stop closer to anything downtown! As someone who loves to cook, the large kitchen is very nice. Of course, communal kitchens and bathrooms are not always the cleanest, but it hasn’t been too much of a problem for me (except for someone stealing my broccoli once. I’m still mad). My biggest pro: Rooms on upper floors with south-facing windows get lots of sunlight and decent views. My biggest con: It’s not a very social dorm, and that, combined with the location, can make it feel a little lonely. But if you’re in a group, have friends who live nearby, like I do, or don’t mind the isolation, it’s a perfect option. Plus, the doors are green!
