Happy Valentine’s Day from Bworts!

Highlights:

On Saturday, men’s wrestling brought home a definitive win against Harvard, winning eight of 10 bouts. Sophomore Sulayman Bah’s (CC ‘27) major decision of 20-9 started out what would turn into a day of victory. Lorenzo Frezza (SEAS ‘27) and Kai Owen (CC ‘26) answered a Harvard decision with a 17-2 tech fall win and a 9-3 decision, respectively, going into intermission. The Lions were unstoppable, winning the final five bouts of the day, with senior Jack McGill (CC ‘25), defeating Harvard’s Alex Whitworth in a 21-10 major decision. To finish off the day, junior Richard Ryu (CC ‘26) earned his first dual victory in a 6-3 decision. This meet was also Columbia’s first Ivy League dual win of this season. Go Lions!

On Friday night, the Columbia women’s basketball team defeated the Dartmouth Big Green with a score of 89-37, securing their spot in the Ivy Madness Tournament, taking place from March 14-16 in Providence, Rhode Island. Senior Cecelia Collins (CC ‘25) led scoring with 20 points, followed by Riley Weiss (CC ’27) with 14. Susie Rafiu (CC ‘26) was a force to be reckoned with, grabbing 16 of the Lions’ total 60 rebounds, the most of any Columbia player in over two years. To top off an incredible display of rebounding, Rafiu also clinched her first double-double as a Lion. Sophomore Blau Tor (BC ‘27) followed with nine rebounds. During an impressive third quarter, the Lions scored 24 to Dartmouth’s one point, which is the fewest points allowed in a quarter in Columbia women’s basketball history. To end it off, Tor scored a buzzer-beating layup. Perri Page (CC ‘26) and Kitty Henderson (CC ‘25) also had great nights, with 13 and 10 points, respectively. This game marked their 20th consecutive win and 19th consecutive Ivy League win.
