Sustainable Development Alumni Career Conversations

- The Office of Undergraduate Programs at the Climate School will host three industry experts to share their experiences in the sustainability field. Attending students will gain insight into the diverse career paths and opportunities available to them as future sustainability leaders. Learn more.
Sustainability in the Age of AI and Driving Climate Tech Solutions
- Monday, March 31, 6 to 9 pm.
- Pulitzer Hall, Lecture Hall.
- Panelists will explore AI’s ethical challenges and planetary impacts while also highlighting how it can be harnessed to better understand environmental conditions and enhance sustainability strategies. Learn more.
Event Cognition: Recent Directions and Current Controversies
- Wednesday, April 2, 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
- Uris Hall, Room 326 (morning session), and 142 (afternoon session). RSVP required for lunch.
- Six psychology and neuroscience researchers will explore event segmentation, which is how we break up the continuous experiences of our lives into separate events that we understand and remember. They will share insight from research, from controlled lab experiments to experiences with movies, music, and more. There will be a morning session from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by an afternoon session from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Lunch will be offered in between. Learn more.
Lunch with a Scientist – Science Mentorship
- Wednesday, April 2, 12 to 1 pm.
- Fairchild Hall, Room 900. Registration required by Monday, March 31.
- The Columbia Undergraduate Science Journal will host their first Lunch with a Scientist, where students interested in science will have the opportunity to learn more about STEM research and working as a scientist. It will feature small-group discussions with professors and researchers. Bring questions and get free Roti Roll!
Indigenous Sovereignty in Science and Data
- Thursday, April 3, 5:30 to 7 pm.
- Fayerweather Hall, Room 513. Registration required.
- Panelists will examine the intersection of Indigenous rights, data sovereignty, and the colonial legacies embedded within scientific knowledge production, with a focus on Papua New Guinea and Hawai‘i. They will demonstrate the complicated legacies of historical expeditions and research projects in Indigenous lands and bodies, with a new consideration of how Indigenous scholars and communities are reclaiming control over this knowledge and data.
