This Tuesday, April 22, Barnard’s Student Government Association hosted an Earth Day Festival on Futter Field.

On Tuesday I had the pleasure of celebrating Earth Day with my fellow Barnard students at SGA’s Earth Day Festival! When I was a kid, Earth Day was one of my favorite holidays because my crunchy Bay Area elementary school would have students bring in plant matter from the ground to create a massive mandala on the playground. Even though the school turned out to be dubiously educational, hence why I transferred after 3rd grade, the Earth Day celebrations are still some of my fondest childhood memories. So when Barnard’s SGA announced they were holding an Earth Day Festival I was ecstatic.

The first good omen was my 2:40 class getting canceled. This meant instead of spending a meager 30 minutes at the celebration I could lounge there for several hours (which I did.)

When I got to Futter Field the first thing I noticed was how many tables there were. At least a dozen different clubs and student organizations set up tables complete with lots of free goodies. I was immediately drawn to the tables of clothing where I got a patterned mini skirt & sweater vest. I even ran back to my dorm to swap out an old item of clothing. After running into a bunch of friends, I strolled around the rest of the tables picking up candy, sustainable period products, and carabiners (CU Rock Climbing knows their audience.)

My friends and I decided to plop down on the grass and enjoy our snacks while doodling. One of my friends is pictured here absolutely going to town drawing on my leg.

Leg Doodles!

All in all, Barnard’s Earth Day Festival was a wonderful experience. There is honestly nothing I love more than free food, sustainable fashion, and spending time outdoors with my friends. I loved getting to see so many students enjoying the sunshine and celebrating the Earth! It’s a pretty great planet if I do say so myself.

Did I get a crazy sunburn? Obviously.
